Director Jimmy Hayward’s adaptation of the classic DC Comics Western hero, “Jonah Hex” is going back before the cameras for additional material.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Jonah Hex” stars Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Megan Fox and Michael Fassbender are being called back to film 12 new script pages in addition to some reshoots that are intended to enhance the story and action. The filming is scheduled to last ten days beginning at the end of January.

The report also cites rumors that the new scenes are intended to “fix certain problems with the movie” while also suggesting that the added budget is intended to help the film to compete with the other summer blockbuster films.

For the “Jonah Hex” reshoots, Hayward — who previously directed “Horton Hears a Who” — will be joined by “I Am Legend” director Francis Lawrence, who was hired last month as a consultant.

Back in 2008, Brolin told MTV News about his initial negative opinion of the “Jonah Hex” script prior to Hayward coming onboard the film.

“When I first read it I thought, oh my God it’s awful!” related Brolin. “And then I had a moment a week later and I thought ‘why is it awful? Maybe the thing to do is to do the most awful movie I can find.’”

“[I love] the absurdity of it,” continued Brolin. “It almost allows you to create a new genre. I love going back into the spaghetti western idea and completely turning it around.”

“Jonah Hex” is scheduled to be released on June 18, 2010.

Looks like Megan’s going to be a busy bee this month with shooting both Passion Play and Jonah Hex. Hope the reshoots fix the “problems” the movie currently has.
